Lava on Ice!

What do you think would happen if you poured a bunch of molten lava on a large block of ice?
Would the ice melt instantly?
Would the lava cool and turn to rock right away?
Would the ice crack due to rapid expansion?

A group of scientists (students) at Syracuse University dared to answer these questions by trying it out!
