Novel Engineering Fall Challenge
Announcing the third 2017 challenge that uses an innovative approach to integrate literacy with engineering.
Novel Engineering puts a new spin on commonly-read elementary-level books – students extract and design solutions to the characters’ engineering problems. Now educators can take that learning beyond the school and into the world with web-based Novel Engineering Challenges, adding an element of competition and connecting students with their peers from across the globe.

Inspired by kids and grounded in research.

Two Options for the Fall Challenge
With it being back to school timeframe, we wanted to provide a couple of options for the Novel Engineering Fall Challenge. The process for each is the same. The only difference is the length of the book.

The shorter option is Weslandia by Paul Fleischman.
Possible solutions that students may build include a functional design to help Wesley and his crops stay protected from bad weather.

The longer option is Poppy by Avi.
Possible solutions that students may solve by building functional solutions include designs that either help Poppy stay safe from Mr. Ocax or help Mr. Ocax catch Poppy.
